If you like exploring new destinations and hiking through beautiful scenery, you are an adventure traveler. These trips are an excellent way to meet nature in its true form while having a memorable experience. Preparation is crucial to adventure travel, and that includes finding the right clothing for your trip. Check out these suggestions of outdoor clothing items to acquire for your next journey!

Clothes You Need on an Adventure Travel
outdoor clothing

The actual selection will depend on your destination. Learn about the usual temperatures during the day and night in the area you plan to visit. Make sure to check the weather forecast and get ready for anything that the specific surroundings can throw at you! Proper packing is essential for any adventure.

Comfortable (and Thermal) Underwear

We’ll start with the basics. You’ll probably do a lot of hiking, so you need comfortable underwear. Aim for premium materials that guarantee maximum breathability.

The underwear length depends on your preference. If the temperatures go below zero, you could benefit from long johns. But if it’s summer, boxers are a better fit when it comes to outdoor clothing. Make sure to pack at least three pairs of underwear, so you won’t be in for any nasty surprises.

Long-Sleeve and Short-Sleeve T-Shirts

You can wear short sleeves if it’s hot, but don’t forget the sunscreen. Always use UPF 50+ because you’ll be spending the entire day in the sun.

Experienced travelers prefer long sleeves. They offer multiple advantages, including:

  • Keeping you safe from ticks, flies, and other insects
  • Protecting you from the sunlight and potential burns
  • Reducing the risk of cuts and scratches when hiking through the woods

Look for long sleeve shirts with an extendable collar. That will help to protect your neck from sunlight and insects.

Hiking Pants

Your pants should be durable and comfortable. That doesn’t mean they can’t be beautiful, too. Feel free to choose a unique pattern or go for a versatile pair that you can also wear to dinners. Convertible pants are a great trick since you can unzip and turn them into shorts in seconds. It helps when you want to catch some sunlight or if it’s too hot.

Lightweight Jacket

If you are hiking for hours, each ounce of weight you are carrying matters. That’s why your jacket shouldn’t be a burden. A lightweight jacket should cover you in mild temperatures, and you can always look for a unit with a synthetic insulated puffy. Many premium brands offer fantastic combinations that will fit your style, so your choice is vast when it comes to mild outdoor clothing.

Warm Outerwear

Yes, you can always grab another blanket in the evening. But you should also consider additional layers while on the move. Are you expecting rain, or there’s snow in the area you are visiting?

Experienced adventure travelers know the importance of rainy jackets and pants. The outerwear should be breathable and waterproof. Get units with a hood, but one you can adjust so it doesn’t compromise your visibility. Adjustable waist and pants are also helpful to avoid getting cold or wet.

Swimsuits

Do you plan on visiting places where you can swim during your trip?  If yes, you’ll need the right clothing! Just imagine – you hike for hours and finally reach that cove with a beautiful beach and crystal clear water. Now it’s time to shine with that swimsuit from the latest catalog you acquired recently! Perhaps you’re visiting Hawaii, check out our adventurous Hawaii activity blog for more inspiration.

Shoes

It’s time to focus on what you’ll wear on your feet. For starters, take multiple pairs of socks. If you are hiking, your socks will probably be dirty in the evening. Consider the entire trip plan and bring the required sock pairs accordingly. You’ll also need a spare pair of shoes to be on the safe side. Now, let’s see some footwear suggestions to consider.

Comfortable Boots

Boots are a smart solution for the winter. They protect your feet from getting cold or wet. That means you should aim for top-quality material. A pair of luxury boots can last for years while maximizing your traveling experience. Apart from offering the expected performance, your boots should also be comfortable.

Running Shoes

If you are a fitness enthusiast, you might go on a track where you can run. So, don’t forget to bring your running shoes. If you need a new pair, stick to premium brands like Asics, Brooks, or New Balance. You can experiment with colors and patterns, but make sure they are comfortable.

Lightweight Sandals

Sandals are for the summer and sandy surfaces. If there’s a desert-like section you need to pass, lightweight sandals can be the right footwear. You can also wear them to the beach or when going into the water for a swim. Sandals can also play a protective role if the bottom of the water has sea urchins or other creatures.

Accessories

outdoor clothing

Accessories can be both stylish and functional additions to your traveling equipment. The experts suggest considering these items when going on an adventure trip!

Backpack

A backpack isn’t an accessory as much as mandatory gear. You’ll need it to pack spare clothing and other items. Backpacks should have sufficient room for everything you want to carry, including a storage compartment for water.

Money Belt

A money belt is useful to know that your cash is always nearby. You don’t want to keep the cash directly in money belt pockets. Instead, find a quality wallet for your money. That way, your travel wallet will keep your money secure even if the bag gets wet.

Hats, Beanies, Caps

A hat can protect you from the sunlight in the summer while making you look cool. Beanies are stylish accessories, and caps can prove to be a crucial part of your snow gear. If the weather gets cold or windy, these accessories will keep your head and ears warm along with your other outdoor clothing.

Gloves

If the weather conditions are harsh, waterproof gloves are imperative to keep your hands warm. But even if the temperatures are milder, you can benefit from gloves. They can protect you from getting your hands dirty and minimize the risk of scratches and cuts. If you are hiking through the desert, you should wear gloves with sunlight protection.

Scarfs

Scarfs have multiple benefits. A lightweight and comfortable unit will improve your overall appearance while protecting you from sunlight in the summer. During the winter, scarves can ensure you stay warm by preventing the wind from blowing into your neck.

Glasses

A pair of high-quality glasses can be useful in both summer and winter. Stick to premium brands that offer the ultimate scratch resistance. It comes as a given that the glasses should have 100% UVA and UVB protection. Finally, look for polarized lenses since you’ll benefit from reduced glare from the snow or sunlight.

Conclusion

Adventure trips are an excellent way to create lifelong memories. If you want to maximize enjoyment and travel experience, it’s necessary to bring the right outdoor clothing items with you. Make sure to create a list and carry all clothing pieces and accessories you might need. Not only will you look amazing, but you’ll also be ready for anything the weather conditions can throw at you during the trip! Be sure to check out all of our luxury travel essentials, as outdoor clothing doesn’t make up all of our travel essentials. If you have any other questions, be sure to ask your luxury travel advisor for suggestions.

The one question I get asked a lot would be,

“what are your travel essentials/must-haves”?

In the world of luxury travel essentials, there is a myriad of products that one can choose from. And narrowing it down can often be an arduous task. To ease the process I have listed below products that I have found that are equally high quality, most items are budget-friendly, and they produce amazing results with their ease of use all the while enjoying your vacation and keeping it simple. Take a peek at some of my travel essentials…

FOR HER

  1. Adidas Hat // I always travel with a few hats! It’s such an easy, quick, and cute and sporty way to doll yourself up if you’re not interested in washing it or styling it that day. Or, for those super early morning flights!
  2. LV BumBag // I don’t know about you, but when traveling I need everything to be easy. Most importantly, I don’t want a purse that’s going to slip off of my shoulder every couple of minutes. You can wear this around your waist or my personal favorite, crossbody. And, best of all, it will stay in place! This is one of my favorite luxury travel essentials.
  3. White Long Sleeve Bodysuit // I’m all for comfort, ease and not having to keep adjusting my top or tucking it back in. Wear this bodysuit with a pair of joggers and it’s a cute and easy duo to travel in.
  4. Ruffle-Waist Black Joggers // All I can say is, “comfy”! When I’m running the airport halls or trying to nap on the plane or if traveling by car, I want comfort. And these do just that.
  5. Grand Pro Rally Court Sneakers // Again, comfort is key 🙌🏻

  1. Makeup Travel Case // I cannot say enough good things about this travel makeup case! I love my makeup and when traveling I take all of my daily makeup plus my brushes. And this holds it all! It has an amazing space for everything.
  2. Toiletry/ Cosmetic Travel Bag Set // These are perfect for all of your toiletry items such as your toothpaste & brush, daily skincare routine items, perfume, etc.
  3. Jewelry Organizer Travel Case // This is probably one of my favorite travel products! It keeps all of my jewelry so neatly tucked away and none of it gets tangled. And there are so many zipper compartments for all sorts of jewelry to take along!
  4. Daily Vitamin/ Pill Box // I’m a daily pill popper…vitamins, that is 😉 I actually use this while at home too and not just travel. It’s such an easy reminder that 1) I need to take my daily vitamins and 2) If I forget whether or not I took them that day, I just peek in the box to see if that day is still there.
  5. Riki Loves Skinny Travel Mirror // Mirror, mirror on the wall…why couldn’t I have been blessed with naturally beautiful skin?! Lol 🤣 In all seriousness, it drives me bananas to have bad lighting in hotel rooms while doing my makeup. And, it’s nice to have this mirror so I can sit down while “putting my face on”.
  6. Riki Cutie Portable Lighted Mini Makeup Mirror // This little mirror is a perfect luxury travel essential for your purse! On a plane and need to do your makeup or need to touch it up before hopping off the plane? This is the perfect device just for that! And, it has lights on it!
  7. Supergoop! Glow Stick SPF 50 Sunscreen // This is an easy one. Whether you’re home or traveling, you must wear your sunscreen daily! We have to protect our skin from harmful rays.
  8. ORIBE Dry Texturizing Spray // Hands down, my absolute favorite texturing spray when traveling! Have flat hair due to humidity? No worries! Spray this evenly over your hair and it will add some volume. Want to skip a day of washing your hair? No problem! Just add a few sprays of this and voila…volume!
  9. Handheld Mini Fan // Don’t let the “mini” fool you. This little thing is powerful! There are so many uses for this fan! One is that you can easily pack it in your day bag and take it along with you if you know you’ll be in the heat that day. OR, have you ever finished your morning skincare routine and it feels like it takes a bit for it to dry before adding your makeup? When I’m rushing or just want the products to dry fast, I pull out this mini fan. I also use it after I spray my face with my favorite setting spray. Such a quick way to set your makeup for the day!

  1. The Packing Cube 6-Piece Set // There’s nothing better than feeling organized with luxury travel gear. And this will do that for you. Keep your daywear, sleepwear, undergarments, and toiletries all separated with these wonderful packing cubes!
  2. Ranger Travel Aromatherapy Diffuser // While on vaca, enjoy having a familiar scent in your space to help you relax and unwind after a long travel day.
  3. BEIS: The Passport & Luggage Tag Travel Set // Being organized is my love language! And these items help to keep your super important belongings easily kept and trackable.
  4. BEIS: The Follower Faux Shearling Tote // Need an extra tote bag to put your travel items in? This chic, yet easy to travel with tote, has a removable strap that makes it easy to strap on your luggage so you don’t have to carry it.
  5. BEIS: 21-Inch Rolling Spinner Suitcase //

  1. 2-Pack Multi Charging Cable //

FOR HIM

  1. V4 Collection 31-Inch Extended Trip Expandable Spinner Packing Case
  2. V4 International 22-Inch Expandable Wheeled Carry-On

  1. Travel Power Strip & Portable Charging Station 3 USB //

As parents who have spent the past decade flying with children around the world we know that although they are sometimes excited, well behaved and self-sufficient they are also frequently tired, cranky and non-compliant. All parents who go on vacation with their children understand that the flights are by FAR the most difficult parts of the journey! Lets face it sitting in tiny, cramped quarters for hours while changing time zones, dealing with turbulence, being told when you can and cannot go to the bathroom all while getting dirty looks from strangers is NOT fun for anyone. In an effort to make flying with chidlren slightly more tolerable for the kids and the other passengers, BTA has come up with a list of the top 10 items that will save parent’s sanity on the next flight.

1. Trunkie Ride On Suitcase

This fun and innovative suitcase fits within carry-on standard 20 x 18 x 10 inches dimension requirements of scheduled, charter and low cost airlines. The 14.75 gallon capacity leaves plenty of room to pack it full of your child’s toys, games, books and spare clothes needed on vacation. These suitcases truly are the perfect travel companion when flying with children.

2. Fire 7 Kids Edition Tablet

Although AAP recommends limiting the screen time, long car rids and flying with children make this Tablet an absolute Must-Have! New purchases come with a 1 year subscription to Amazon FreeTime Unlimited subscription. Get content specifically targeted for kids ages 3-12. Stocked with over 15,000 age appropriate books, movies, TV shows, educational apps, and games. Rest assured that your kids are safely entertained. BTA particularly loves the individual child profiles which allow parents to set bedtime curfews. With Learn First, you can block access to videos and games until educational targets such as reading goals are met.

3. Kids Headphones

An absolute must so that your kids can enjoy their videos, games and music without disrupting the other passengers or their siblings. BTA particularly likes the safe 85 decibel volume limit so your child won’t be exposed to sounds much louder than a home garbage disposal. They also come with an adjustable headband for a universal fit, in-line microphone and easy volume controls. These are made from environmentally friendly materials. Win-Win for the planet and children.

4. Boogie BoThinkFun Rush Hourard

This awesome E-Writer gives parents some rest when flying with children. Little Einsteins can draw pictures, practice writing letters, spell sight words, solve math problems or play games. Erase the image with the touch of a button – and a friendly flash from the liquid crystal display. Best part is that the sealed 3V watch battery never needs replacing. The Boogie Board tablet is 1/8″ thin and is easily fits in backpacks and carryons. The Boogie Board tablet’s pressure-sensitive LCD writing surface creates lines of different thickness based on how hard you push. Just like paper and pen.

5. Inflatable Travel Pillow Footrest or Bed

Kids can sleep through Trans-Atlantic flights for hours as a result of having this amazing pillow. Although there are many other similar products this one as it folds up nicely when not in use and doesn’t require a pump to inflate. The Travel Pillow is designed to help your child spread out when they sleep rather than lie across their parents, siblings and other passengers.

6. Mifold Grab-and-Go Booster

After lugging around car seats and boosters from state to state and country to country, often forgetting them or intentionally leaving them in the airports because we got tired of transporting ONE MORE item BTA fell in love with this brilliant invention. More than 10x smaller than a regular booster seat and just as safe.

The advanced, compact, and portable booster seat is designed for kids aged 4 and up, 40 to 100 lbs, and 40 to 57 inches tall. Fold it up and pack it in your child’s backpack, trunkie or glove compartment. Perfect companion when flying with children.

7.  Portable USB Charger & Cable (Apple), Cable (Android)

Nothing is more aggravating than realizing your phone, computer or much needed tech accessory is out of battery on a long flight. While some airlines have outfitted their planes with in seat charging many others are sadly behind the times. BTA recommends this cool little deceive which is equipped with advanced PD technology and provides fast charging for any of your USB Type C-enabled device. USB C cable or lightning to USB C cable is not included. iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X could be fully charged in a few minutes

8. BCOZZY Kids Chin Supporting Neck Pillow

Do you ever catch a glimpse of your kids sleeping in cars or on planes with their heads bobbing precariously up and down and wonder “how can they sleep like that?!” Well wonder no more because this neck pillow is designed with kids anatomy in mind. It offers chin, neck and entire head support, keeping the head from bobbing and allowing kids and parents to get longer periods of restful sleep.

9. ThinkFun Rush Hour

This perfectly sized, endless entertainment logic game is a great alternative to electronics for both mid and long haul flights. It Contains 40 challenges ranging from beginner to expert that become increasingly difficult as you play through. Parents can now have a little fun when flying with children.

10. Some Good Books

Nothing beats reading to children. Whether a quick 2 hour jaunt or an 8 hour overnight flight, bring some good books and use this time to connect with your children, grow their imaginations and help them seethe world in a new light.
