Next, wander through the Bica area and one of the most photographed streets of Lisbon. Next, explore the Alfama neighborhood and stroll Camoes Square. In a few short hours, not only will you understand the flow and character of the city but also its culinary traditions.

Not in the mood for walking? Have a delicious lunch at Tágide, a top-notch Portuguese restaurant nestled in an 18th-century building. In the afternoon, stroll back to your hotel for a siesta.

My personal practice for 2025 will embrace diversity: 10,000 steps four to five days weekly, strength training three times a week, and I’ll be sure to sprinkle in activities like simply getting my groove on in the living room, hiking AZ’s beautiful terrains, and the childhood enjoyment of swimming.

5. Become Mindful of Your Meals 

More than whole, nutrient-dense foods – savor meals without distractions. I am guilty of multi tasking while eating with a podcast or worse – reviewing email, but the truth is, you need to be in rest to digest. Research shows that screen time impacts the gut brain axis and while this research is still new, I can speak confidently from firsthand experience. Screens are “activating” to our nervous system and when you are activated you are not in a state of being able to digest your food. I have personally experimented with this myself and the difference is alarming. I encourage anyone to try it for themselves – see how you feel when you take a few deep breaths before a meal and only stay in the moment – chew longer, really relish your food and eat at a slower pace. I promise you’ll notice the difference and want to make this change for 2025.

6. Cultivate Daily Meaningful Connections 

In our digital age, the value of authentic human connection becomes increasingly precious. Counter to conventional wisdom that dismisses small talk, research reveals that brief exchanges with strangers contribute significantly to our overall life satisfaction. These moments of connection, whether through heartfelt compliments or simple acknowledgments, weave a tapestry of shared humanity that enriches our daily experience.

7. Schedule Digital Detoxes

In our perpetually connected world, intentional disconnection becomes a profound act of self-care. Creating sacred boundaries around technology use – whether through screen-free bedrooms, mindful meal times, or designated digital sabbaticals – allows our nervous systems to find their natural rhythm again. These periods of conscious disconnection open spaces for creativity, presence, and deeper connection with both self and others.

8. Explore Sound Healing Frequencies 

The phenomenon of frisson – those delightful shivers that cascade through us during powerful musical moments – offers tangible evidence of sound’s neurological impact. I have a bad habit of holding my breath, and in 2025 we are going to change that. This practice becomes particularly powerful when combined with movement or meditation. The apps Open, Othership, and Insight Timer are all great places to begin!

10. Indulge in Adaptogenic Elixirs 

Haven’t you heard? Coffee and Alcohol are out! (well, kind of). 2025 is coming in hot with an overhaul on how we’re doing drinks. Our daily beverage rituals now center around nourishment by incorporating healing herbs and adaptogens. Create your own signature blends using ingredients like reishi for immunity, ashwagandha for stress resilience, and rose for heart opening. Natural botanical allies can support your body’s natural ability to handle stress while providing sustained, balanced energy throughout the day, or dropping in to your dreams at night. And if there is one thing I have learned from being a city transplant living out west it is that we are too disconnected from nature. So much so, that we tend to forget – we are nature! If you can – prioritize getting outside on a daily basis and immersed in nature on a weekly basis. These touchpoints take us back to what truly matters – a connection that grounds us in the rhythms of the natural world and reminds us of our place in the greater web of life. It’s truly in the moments of feeling small that you feel a part of a profound larger picture. Carry this profound knowing into your day to day and see how your life transforms.

13. Embrace Analog Creativity 

Working with our hands brings us fully into the present moment. Choose a craft that calls to you – perhaps pottery (my choice for 2025!), knitting, painting, or working with herbs – and approach it as a moving meditation. This practice not only produces beautiful objects but also cultivates mindfulness and creative flow. It’s restorative, engaging and contributes to what makes us human – tapping into our creativity and curiosity.

Snowstorms, flight overbookings, and even lost luggage are common occurrences during peak travel times. Here, trip interruption and cancellation insurance provide the support needed for unforeseen events, allowing for a smoother rescheduling or refund process.

3. “My health insurance covers me abroad.”

While some may assume their domestic health insurance will cover them internationally, this is not typically the case. Many domestic plans do not provide any coverage outside their own network, and even out-of-state travel can lead to out-of-network charges. For example, if a traveler has an accident while exploring a remote area in another country, the cost of treatment can be staggering without proper insurance.
